Ask the questions before you fall in love
Every property in MapView has a Must Knows section: the risks, drawn from government data, that can turn a lovely house into an expensive problem. It brings together site alerts, easements and EPA records, grouped by what’s in the ground, on the ground and above it.
- Flood: is the land in a flood-prone area?
- Bushfire: is it in a bushfire-prone area?
- Contamination: has the land been flagged for possible contamination?
- Mineshafts: are there old mine shafts on or near the property?
- Easements: does someone else have a right to use part of the land, such as for a sewer or power lines?
- Heritage: are there heritage rules that limit what you can change?
- Growth area: is it in an area set aside for growth and new development?
Each check is marked Clear when nothing was found, with a one-line explanation such as “No easements detected on this property’s title.” Anything that isn’t clear is worth a closer look, and worth a question for the agent.
It tells you what it doesn’t know
Where MapView doesn’t have data for an area yet, the check says Not mapped rather than guessing. So you always know what was checked and what wasn’t.
Not sure what something means?
Must Knows is one of 14 topics for every property, alongside things like the suburb and school zones. Slide or tap through them for plain-English explanations. You don’t need to know any planning jargon.
